Russell Herder is Now a Certified B Corporation®
“Certified” Status Requires Compliance with Rigorous Standards of Social and Environmental Performance, Accountability and Transparency
MINNEAPOLIS – April 4, 2017 – Russell Herder today announced it has earned global B CorpTM certification by meeting high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. Russell Herder is one of only ten Minnesota companies to earn the recognition. In achieving Certified B Corporation® (B CorpTM) status, Russell Herder cements its promise to be a business that is a force for good.
“Thirty-three years ago, Russell Herder was founded with the belief that our work should matter, and we are proud to continue that legacy as a Certified B Corporation,” said CEO Carol Russell. “Becoming a Certified B Corporation is a natural extension of Russell Herder’s values and our enduring commitment to doing good in the community.”
Becoming a Certified B Corporation is the agency’s latest step to formally commit to serving higher social and environmental purposes. In September, Russell Herder changed its legal tax status to become a Benefit Corporation, which means it values achieving social and sustainability goals in addition to financial profit. As a Certified B Corporation (global accreditation) and Benefit Corporation (state tax status), Russell joins a select group of entities working to change the culture of business.
Russell Herder, a full-service, woman-owned advertising agency, was granted Certified B Corporation status by the nonprofit organization B Lab®. To earn the certification, Russell Herder demonstrated it meets rigorous social, accountability and environmental standards – joining the ranks of esteemed B Corp companies like Burt’s Bees, Aveda and Patagonia.
In 2011, Inc. magazine called Certified B Corporations “the highest standard for socially responsible businesses.” There are more than 2,000 Certified B Corporations in over 130 industries and 50 countries with one unifying goal – to redefine success in business.
In addition to exceeding the Certified B Corporation standards, Russell Herder has committed to serving the community by matching a significant percentage of its annual profits in time and services donated to select nonprofit organizations. Russell Herder also gives team members paid time off to volunteer and is pursuing initiatives focused on arts, sustainability, and health and wellness causes.
“As a Certified B Corporation, Russell Herder is doubling down on our commitment to exceeding higher standards of purpose, accountability and transparency,” Brian Herder, co-owner and executive creative director of Russell Herder, said. “Establishing Russell Herder as a Certified B Corporation provides us a more meaningful way to measure our performance, not just through profits but by how well we serve others – our employees, our clients and our community.”
