Reframing assumptions one story at a time.
The Treat People Like People campaign was created in 2019 to reframe assumptions about people living with disabilities and to raise awareness about the prevalence of abuse and neglect of people within this community. The goal of the campaign was to help educate, encourage, and reinforce the idea that people living with disabilities are part of the essential fabric of society and deserve to be treated the way each of us wants to be treated. Our latest work for Treat People Like People emphasizes the importance of reshaping societal perceptions and provides an alternative narrative through video storytelling.
Insight, Understanding, and Beekeeping
The Treat People Like People campaign challenges misconceptions by sharing the stories and voices of individuals living with disabilities. One of these stories highlights MSS’s beekeeping program and the individuals working as beekeepers, managing hives, caring for bees, and harvesting honey. The beekeepers featured in the video share their experiences and showcase the capabilities of people living with disabilities, whose talents and abilities are often underestimated by the public.
A Model for Future Campaigns
The beekeeping story is a powerful example of how thoughtful storytelling can impact public perceptions. We are proud to have been part of this work and look forward to telling more stories that celebrate and empower every individual.
